The Cause and Nature of Collagen Damage after Mechanical Overloading
نویسنده
چکیده
r θ z INTRODUCTION It is generally believed that mechanical overloading is one of the major causes for the onset of cartilage degeneration. The first goal of this study was to determine the influence of cartilage thickness on the prevalence and the location of collagen damage after mechanical overloading. The second goal of this study was to determine the cause and nature of this collagen damage. It was hypothesized that initial cartilage damage involves loosening of interfibrillar bonds between the collagen fibrils, while the fibrils themselves remain intact until severe degenerative changes are induced [1,2]. In this study both the maximal shear strains along the collagen fibrils and the maximal fibril strains were tested as possible candidates for causing collagen damage during mechanical overloading.

Causes of mechanically induced collagen damage in articular cartilage.
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a multifactorial disease, associated with articular cartilage degeneration and eventually joint destruction. The phases of the disease have been described in detail, and mechanical factors play an important role in the initiation of OA, but many questions remain about its etiology. Swelling of cartilage, one of the earliest signs of damage, is proportional to the amount o...
متن کاملKeratoconus experimentally produced in mice using collagenase
Introduction: Keratoconus is a relatively common disease of cornea in which structural changes within the cornea cause it to thin and change to a conical shape and scar at the central portion of cornea. So far, few methods and drug treatments were introduced due to both lack of accepted animal models to induce experimental keratoconus and limitation of research in human considering ethical issu...

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the context of new aspects of cellular adaptation in physical activity with a focus on delayed pain approach, the nature and types of pain, several preventive and non-pharmacological approaches to delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) and to achieve a desirable conclusion and provide more relevant information from previous research. In this stu...
متن کاملEvaluating the effect of pH on mechanical strength and cell compatibility of nanostructured collagen hydrogel by the plastic compression method
Objective(s): One of the main constraints of collagen hydrogel scaffolds for using in tissue engineering is mechanical weakness. Plastic compression (PC) is a physical method to overcome the mechanical limitation of collagen hydrogel. Materials and Methods: In this study, the effects of pH on mechanical and biological properties of PC hydrogels were investigated. Collagen hydrogels were fabrica...

Environmental hazards include all kinds of hazards in the environment such as natural and technological or natural and man-made. The natural phenomena such as rains or floods are the normal behaviors of the nature which only when they cause damage to the human life, are considered as hazard. The technological events such as road accidents, air pollution and chemical pesticides are always danger...
